Yesterday I was put on the waiting list in Atlanta for embryo adoption. We are 26th on the list and the wait time averages 1-2 years. The thing is that once it is your turn you will only be given 2 healthy embryos even if the donor donates more. This can move the list quicker but the siblings will be split up. If the transfer doesn't work you are moved to the end of the list and have to wait your turn again.
I have mixed feelings about this. We already have one child so we only want one child at this time but if we didn't already have a child we would want all the embryos adopted by the donor to have a sibling that is genetically related to each other.
Is this common practice at other clinics?

Congrats on getting on th list! I don't know about other clinics, but that's not the way my clinic works. You go on a waiting list and when embryos come available that match your criteria you are allowed to choose if you want to accept them or not. If you accept you are given all the embryos the donor family had left. So for us, our donor family had 16 and we got them all. We transfered 2 and I'm pregnant now. We can store the rest as long as we like. When we are done having children we have chosen to donate the remaining back to the clinic for another family.
Best of luck! Hope your wait time is short!

We are using the NEDC out of Knoxville and are doing an anonymous embryo adoption. We adopted 6 multicell embryos and had our first transfer in July. We lost 1 embryo in the thaw, transferred 3 and ended up losing all of them so we have 2 embryos remaining for our Sept. transfer. We chose 4 "back up" embryos to have in case our remaining 2 don't survive the thaw this time.

Our clinic is similar to jenjen's. We have the option to take all the embryos our donors have, but we have to pay to store them at that point. We haven't been matched yet, but that is what we plan to do so that (I hope!) we can come back for genetically related siblings in the future.
I don't think I would go to a clinic that makes you wait all over again if it doesn't work the first time. If it were me, I'd look for a different clinic based on that alone.
Good luck!

Update: We are 16th on the list. Hoping that it will only take 6 more months until we get on top of the list.
Does the clinics usually wait until you are on the top of the list to start birth control pills? I have cycles that last about 50 days. The only time I had the average 28-30 day cycle was when I was on the pill or was taking Clomid.

Great! I hope you make it to the top quickly!
Not sure about waiting to start BCP's. I would call and ask them.
